Archdiocese of Cincinnati Receives Feedback on Catholic Parish Reorganization Plan

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The Archdiocese of Cincinnati said it received many comments after the release of the first draft of the “Beacons of Light” plan, which aims to reorganize parishes and their leadership.

Archdiocesan officials hope this will resolve current challenges and prepare the Catholic Church for future growth.

Parish families will then be responsible for revising Mass schedules, combining church programs, and making decisions about the future of underused church buildings as well as the status of Catholic schools.

“The general consensus is that the plan seems to make sense, said Jennifer Schack, media relations manager for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. “It is good to meet the needs of the future of the church. We have someone from another diocese who told us that he had been through this himself and things that worked and that did not work for them.

The parish of Saint-Ignace is one of the largest in the archdiocese and the school is at the top of the list of registrations.

St. I’s is twinned with only one other church in the Parish Families, St. Bernard at Taylor Creek.

It’s different from St. Joseph’s in the West End, which will share a pastor with four other churches, including St. Boniface in Northside, St. Leo in Fairmount, and St. Bernard in Spring Grove Village.

One concern the Archdiocese has heard is about schools.

“Planning your schools is naturally a very big concern for the faithful,” Schack said.

St. Joe’s pastor Father Reynaldo Taylor says his message to the congregation is to be open to the plan.

“My message to my parishioners is to be open, to pray and to seek the will of God in our lives as we move forward, for the struggle is not something new for us,” said Fr Taylor. . “We’ve always seen it and we’ve always dealt with it.”

The Beacons of Light initiative is still in its early stages and the Archdiocese says a lot can change.

They pointed out that they did not even have the duties of pastor yet.

The archdiocese says it looks forward to the contribution of parishioners over the next three weeks to strengthen the families of the parishes.

Parishioners will be able to comment on the draft reorganization plan from October 1 to 20. You can drop off your comments at your parish office or post them to Beacons of Light, C / O Archdiocese of Cincinnati, 100 East Eighth Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45202. They can also be submitted online at www.BeaconsAOC.org.
