This gathering will bring together men for a day of prayer and reflection.
The Year of St. Joseph Catholic Men’s Conference will be held on September 11 at the Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, 500 N. Julian St., Ebensburg.
Registration will start at 8:30 a.m.
The program will start at 9 a.m. and run until 2 p.m.
âWith our Holy Father Pope Francis declaring that it was the year of Saint Joseph, I thought it would be a good opportunity to have a men’s conference in the parish and to open it to everyone denominations and not just to Catholic men, âsaid the Rev. Brian Warchola, pastor of the church. âIt is also an opportunity for us to look at someone like Saint Joseph, who was the adoptive father of Jesus and the one chosen to be the husband of Our Lady, as a strong example for men to be of good husbands, fathers and sons. “
The guest speaker will be Bas Rutten, a retired mixed martial artist and UFC heavyweight champion, who will give presentations in the morning and afternoon sessions.
âI came across his story of returning to the Catholic faith. He was baptized Catholic but didn’t practice his faith for several years, and I thought he would be great, âWarchola said.
He said Rutten plans to share his story of returning to the faith and his personal challenges.
âIt will be based on being a good example for men by following Saint Joseph,â said Warchola.
The day will include Eucharistic adoration, the occasion of the sacrament of Reconciliation and discussion.
“We are also going to do something to commemorate those who died on September 11 and we hope to have soldiers present,” Warchola said.
For the men present, the hope is that it will revitalize their faith.
“For people who have been taken away from the church, they can use this as a way to come back into the faith, or if someone doesn’t have the faith, they might be inspired by Bas and it will help them to grow in their faith, âWarchola said.
The cost is $ 20 per person and includes lunch.
Registration is required by September 3 by calling the church at 814-472-7244.
