The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario has received approval for a joint capital submission with the Consolidated Municipal Services Manager of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell and Kinder Kids Early Years Inc.
The request, which was submitted to the Department of Education earlier this year, includes funding for a renovation of a room at Mother Teresa Catholic School in Russell, to accommodate a preschool program for 24 children. The renovation includes a kitchen, preschool toilets, staff office and storage space, funded at $ 505,794. The tender for the project was awarded to Frecon Construction.
An official funding announcement was made Monday, December 13 in Limoges, Ontario, by Sam Oosterhoff, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education.
“We hope to have an occupation before Christmas, so that Mother Teresa’s current child care provider, Kinder Kids Early Years Inc., can work towards obtaining the required licenses and inspections, in the hope that the program becomes operational in January 2022 “, noted Chairman of the Board of Directors, Todd Lalonde. “We are extremely grateful to the Department of Education for this funding and the benefits this program will bring to our local community. “
“Providing school-based child care benefits children, families and staff as collaboration and partnership begin in the early years. These relationships, knowledge of the child’s learning needs and professional collaboration benefit every child as they move smoothly from daycare to kindergarten through school, ”said Chris Oldford, Principal of the School. Catholic Mother Teresa.
The programs offered will include a preschool and before and after program. Authorized and governed by the Department of Education, the program meets all necessary provincial approvals. This project is part of a provincial investment of more than $ 600 million to support new places in schools and daycares announced recently by Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. The overall investment will support 78 school and daycare projects, creating more than 19,700 new student spaces and 3,000 daycare spaces in schools across the province.
