Ernest “Ernie” Tauer

NEW ULM – Ernest “Ernie” Tauer, 86, from New Ulm died on Monday, December 13, 2021 at New Ulm Medical Center.

The Christian burial mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021 in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm, where the Honor Guard of Comrades from the New Ulm Region will offer full military honors.

Visitations will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the church.

Ernie is survived by his brother, Donald “SEP” Tauer of New Ulm; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His parents died before him; his brothers, Curt (Jo) Tauer, Erwin (Angie) Tauer, Ferdinand “Fritz” Tauer; his sister, Valeria (Ray) Schanus; and niece, Patricia Thoms.

Ernest Frank Tauer was born February 1, 1935 in Lake Hanska Township, son of Frank and Ella (Reinarts) Tauer. He attended the country school at District School # 75 near Hanska and Holy Trinity Catholic School. Growing up, Ernie helped his parents on their family farm. He then spent 6 years in the Army Reserve, where he spent time at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, and Camp Guernsey, Wyoming. After returning home, Ernie worked for Schanus Plumbing and Heating and then Bee-Line Wheel and Frame. He was with Bee-Line for over 40 years; 29 years as a co-owner with his brothers, until his retirement in 2000. Ernie enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Ernie was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and a life member of the American Legion Seifert-Bianchi Post 132 in New Ulm. Blessed be his memory.
