Roma, Italy, May 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — It was a historic week in Rome and in Vatican City as a delegation of Italian-American leaders met with government officials and Pope Francis to advance cultural and religious initiatives — and set the stage for new economic opportunities — between the United States and Italy.

The mood was light as Judge Basil Russo and his fellow Italian-American leaders met with Pope Francis on May 11 in Vatican City. The Sovereign Pontiff warmly welcomed the delegation and gave his blessing. Justice Russo leads the Conference of Presidents of Major Italian-American Organizations (COPOMIAO) and is the National President of Italian Sons and Daughters of America (ISDA).

Italian, Italian-American and Vatican officials have ushered in a new era of strategic partnerships and diplomacy in Rome.

The delegation, brought together by Judge Basil M. Russo – who leads the Conference of Presidents of Major Italian-American Organizations (COPOMIAO) – organized a round table with judges of the Italian Supreme Court, met the Italian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and spoke with the Secretary of State of the Vatican to identify issues of mutual interest. worry.

“Our Catholic faith is such a complex and essential part of our heritage that it defines, more than anything else, our Italian-American identity. It deserves renewed care and attention,” Russo said.

The historic “Eternal City” tour is a one-of-a-kind event and one of many new heights designed to preserve and promote Italian-American history, traditions, institutions, and financial and cultural connectivity with Italy.

“In the past 18 months alone, COPOMIAO has united hundreds of Italian-American organizations to preserve and revive the culture that our ancestors brought with them from Italy“, Russo said. “We are now forming strategic partnerships and alliances throughout Italy to complete our journey.”

Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing with the White House, Italian-American politicians, various museum officials, and high-level educators to promote public policy, advocacy initiatives, and the Italian language in the United States.

Additionally, COPOMIAO will sponsor an Italian-American Youth Summit in Florida next year to energize the younger generations around our heritage.
