New program will install solar panels in schools and local organizations


SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The first batch of recipients of solar panel installations under the City of South Bend’s new Solar Energy Assistance and Savings Initiative was announced Wednesday.

This program helps provide clean, efficient energy to eligible nonprofits, community organizations, and schools in South Bend.

“We are delighted to announce this first cohort of the EASSI program and look forward to working with them to make lasting improvements to their facilities. We also look forward to accepting another round of applications and appointing a new cohort in the fall, said Evie Bauman, City of South Bend Director of Sustainability.

Organizations and schools receiving solar panels as part of the program’s spring cohort include:

• YWCA North Central Indiana

• Near the northwest district

• The Beacon Resource Center

• Casa de Amistad

• South Bend Civic Theater

• Paramount Schools of Excellence

• Sainte-Croix parish and school

• Saint-Adalbert Catholic School
