An essay on a priest is recognized by the state
A student from Sarasota was recently recognized for his writing skills in First Lady Casey DeSantis’ Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest. Giacomo Mutti, a high school student from Booker, wrote his essay on Father Celestino Gutiérrez, pastor of St. Jude Parish, who supports the Sarasota County community through his volunteerism. Giacomo was recognized by Governor Ron DeSantis in a ceremony on November 12, 2021. The theme of the 500-word essay was limited to “celebrating the leaders and champions of the Hispanic-American community.” A ceremony in honor of Giacomo was held on November 21 at St. Jude Parish where he was able to show his award and directly thank Father Gutiérrez for being an inspiration to him and others in the community. For winning the competition, Giacomo was awarded a four-year Florida College Plan scholarship, offered by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.
