Norbert Krob, 102, of Bradenton, Fla., Formerly of Walker, Iowa, passed away in Bradenton on August 13, 2021. A funeral mass was held at Ss. Peter and Paul the Apostles Church in Bradenton. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Walker at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, with interment in the Sacré-Cœur cemetery.

Norbert Frank Krob and his twin brother Robert William were born at home in Ely, Iowa on February 19, 1919, the sons of Frank Joseph (FJ) and Libby Zvacek Krob. Along with another brother and two sisters, they grew up in Ely, worked for their father at the elevator FJ Krob and Company, and graduated from Ely’s school in 1936.

Norb was drafted into the United States Army on March 27, 1941 and discharged on December 11, 1945, 4 years, 8 months, 14 days. While stationed at Fort. Campbell, Ky., He met a southern beauty named Mary Ruth Van Ness. They were married at Fancy Farm, Ky., On April 24, 1944, a marriage that would last over 70 years.

After the war, Norb and Mary Ruth returned to Iowa and Norb continued his career in the grain trade. In 1950, FJ bought an elevator from Walker. Norb was tasked with starting the company’s operations there. Norb and Mary Ruth raised their family and lived in Walker until 1978 when they retired to Bradenton.

Norb loved life and he loved people. His passions were family, his love of his Catholic faith, golf and travel. He and Mary Ruth have visited 49 states, Canada and Mexico in their RV, playing golf and making many new friends. Norb and Mary Ruth were founding members of Ss. Peter & Paul, the Catholic Church of the Apostles in Bradenton. His faith was very important to him and he continued to attend daily Mass until his death.

He is survived by his sons, Mike (Penny) Krob of Walker, David (Cheryl) Krob of Ely and Tom (Jane) Krob of Las Vegas; her grandchildren, Michelle (Lee) Cherry, Allen (Sheri) Krob, Steven (Kim) Krob, Gary Krob, Jeffrey (April) Krob, Julie (Robert) King, Mark (Erin) Krob, Kara (Travis) Clark, Brian (Emily) Krob and Mélanie Krob Muldowney; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ruth, in 2014; and his grandson, Michael, in 1999. His parents were also predeceased by brothers J. Victor (Edna) Krob and Robert (Verona) Krob; and sisters Martha (John) Phillips and Doris (Lester) Buresh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Church of the Sacred Heart, Walker, or Camp Courageous in Iowa.
