The Manteca women’s tennis team opened Valley Oak League play on Tuesday with a dominating 6-3 win over defending champion Central Catholic at the Manteca Regional Tennis Center.
Defending Sac-Joaquin Division II champion Katie Kim held off Mianna Robinson 6-0, 6-0. The Buffaloes won all six singles matches.
Chloe Marquis beat Caden Wilson in singles No. 2 6-3, 6-3, Emma Ngo swept Riley Freitas 6-4, 6-1 and Shreya Raman held off Peyton Garrett 6-2, 7-5 in numbers 3 – 5 games.
The fifth and sixth singles contest went to the third sets. At No. 5, Manteca’s Jenna Poncini outlasted Adriana Saldivar, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Christina Nguyen won by default after her opponent retired in the final set with the score tied at 2-2. Nguyen lost the first set 3-6 before taking a 7-6(2) lead in the second.
Eva Pasion and Alizee Jung dropped the No. 1 doubles match against Gulsayn Grewel and Katy Houghton, 1-6, 1-6. Guadalupe Mercado and Parm Toor were beaten by Isis Zulita and Landyn Wetzel, 2-6, 4-6. Lorilie Phoung and Michailla Springs lost to Kaden Kemp and Mia Phillips, 4-6, 4-6.
Manteca will next play Sierra today in a make-up match.
Ripon 160, Bret Harte 177
The Indians battled windy conditions at Jack Tone Golf Course and improved to 4-0 in the Valley Foothill League North Division.
Gabbi Ilardi shot a par 31 to lead the way. Katie Martin (39), Aaliya Martinez (45) and Gabby Calderara (45) completed the scoring. Carly Hickman (43), Caroline Krpan (44) and Maggie Kristaff (44) beat Bret Harte (2-2).

The Spartans totaled 371 points and earned two forfeit wins in the Western Athletic Conference game at Manteca Park Golf Course.
Sanah Sunner led Lathrp with a 68 and was followed by Manjot Kaur (80), Sara Serdar (71), Mya Grisham (76) and Kate Albisv (76).

At Los Banos, Hannah Stewart did the most damage for Lathrop with three goals. Elizabeth Rodriguez scored the other.

Camila De La Garza compiled 15 assists, five aces and four digs as Lathrop (3-1, 5-4 overall) cruised to victory over WAC in Modesto, 25-16, 25-21, 25-13.
Azul Maldonado contributed eight kills and six digs, while Alaba Olaleye added five kills and five digs. Celeste Narvaez collected 15 digs.

The Knights (3-0, 12-4 on aggregate) fended off a spirited effort to visit Orestimba to earn a 25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 25-21 victory in the Southern Athletic League.
Jordan Vander Veen had 15 kills and 18 digs. Ava Van Groningen recorded 14 kills, 13 digs and two solo blocks. Avery McMurray contributed nine kills, six aces and 24 digs. Megan Weststeyn had 49 assists, nine digs and four blocks.

The Spartans swept 25-17, 25-14 behind Annie Millan’s five kills, four aces and four digs. Julia Roaquin stepped in with seven aces and seven assists. Justine Mabutas posted seven digs. Valerie Renteria and Briana Elayba each served four aces.

Alyana Vere had 16 aces as the Spartans held on for the win 12-25, 25-17, 15-11.
