Ruth Genevieve (Hampton) Holleran, 94 – Ellwood City, PA news

Mrs. Ruth Genevieve (Hampton) Holleran passed away peacefully at her home in Avon Lake, Ohio on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. She was the youngest of 13 children born to the late William Bernard and Anna Cecilia (Haney) Hampton on September 23. 1927.

She grew up in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania and has fond memories of her hometown and her large family. It was there that she met the love of her life, John (“Jack”) Holleran over a spaghetti dinner at St. Agatha’s Church Hall. Ruth and Jack married in St. Agatha in 1950 and lived in Ellwood where their first of four children was born. They moved to Munster, Indiana when Jack took a job with Republic Steel. They later moved to St. John Township, Indiana then Westlake, Ohio and after Jack’s death Ruth moved to Avon Lake, Ohio.

Ruth was a fabulous wife to Jack whom she loved so dearly, and an incredible mother and true friend to her four children. She always had a song in her heart and could usually be heard singing while working from home. She often sang with Jack as he played the family piano and Jack often marveled at Ruth’s natural ability to harmonize so beautifully.

Ruth had an adventurous spirit, a dreamer’s imagination and loved family vacations, barbecues in the parks and inventing bedtime stories for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was devoted to her Catholic faith and gathered the family together to recite the Rosary regularly before the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Later in life Ruth added special daily devotions to the Novena of Saint Jude, the Divine Mercy Rosary and the Miraculous Medal and, as she had done all her life, prayed the Rosary daily.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, husband Jack, 12 siblings (Vincent Hampton, William Hampton, Blanche Rimbey, Helen Roland, Edward Hampton, Francis Morrison, Geraldine Wehman, Pauline Christy, Anna Mae Henderson, George Hampton , Richard Hampton, Paul Hampton) and is survived by his four children Maureen (Holleran) Bodin (Daniel) and Timothy Holleran, both of Avon Lake, Ohio, Mary Rebecca (Holleran) Hayden (Michael) of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, and Michael Holleran (Sherry) of Queen Creek, Arizona, 13 grandchildren (Dr. Nathan Bodin, Joshua Bodin, Daniel Bodin, Timothy Holleran, John Holleran, Caity Rutt, Brian Holleran, Maggie Holleran, Molly Holleran, Abigail Holleran, MP Hayden, Mary Kate Aiello, Ruth Geneviève Hayden), and 8 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 20, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Father John Wehner officiating. Ruth will be buried next to her beloved mother and father and next to her lifelong love, Jack, at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Ellwood City. Arrangements have been made through the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home and Crematorium Inc. in the town of Ellwood.
