The Catholic Diocese of Beaumont hires 2 new directors


Two schools in the Catholic Diocese of Beaumont will have new leaders when they start school next month.

Bishop David Toups announced on Thursday that Patricia Rios will lead St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Port Arthur and Juan Davila will serve as acting headmaster of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Orange.

Rios is a longtime Southeast Texas educator, teaching at both Port Arthur and Beaumont ISDs. She also graduated twice from Lamar University – first in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and in 2017 with a master’s degree in administration.

In addition to teaching, Rios has experience writing curriculum and has created and translated district exams.

Rios said in a diocesan press release that she is enthusiastic, energetic and ready to share her expertise and learn from her staff, students and families in her new role.

Davila, a graduate of St. Anne’s Catholic School and Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 2006 and a master’s degree from Lamar University in 2013.

He has worked as a tutoring coordinator, teacher’s assistant, supplemental instructor and graduate assistant focused on providing services to students with disabilities, according to the press release.

After earning his master’s degree, Davila worked at a local children’s advocacy center where he educated and advocated for abused families and children.

Davila then went to work as Director of Program Development at Mental Health America of Southeast Texas, a community-based nonprofit “dedicated to meeting the needs of people living with mental illness and promoting holistic mental health for all.” “, according to the organization’s website.

Davila said in the press release for his new position that he considers himself the first student at St. Mary’s School with a humble mind and heart, remembering that people can always improve and grow and that he will never know everything.
